First released in 2008, the Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coin (often simply called the ‘Philharmonic’) is one troy ounce of .999 fine silver and has a face value of 1.5 Euro, the only bullion coin with a face value in euros.
Thomas Pesendorfer first designed the coin for the gold bullion first issues in 1989, and his timeless depictions continue to be used unrevised in this silver coin. The intricate details of Vienna’s concert hall Musikverein pipe organ are carved into the obverse side of this coin, above which reads “REPUBLIK OSTERREICH” (Republic of Austria). The weight, date and value are finely displayed underneath in a quintessential Austrian font.
