This image was designed by Coert Steynberg, a renowned South African sculptor and medallist, and is also used on other high-quality South African coins. “South Africa”, the gold content and the face value (1 Rand) are inscribed.

The obverse was designed by Otto Schultz and bears the face of the coin’s namesake, Paul Kruger, former president of the old South African Republic. The country’s name “South Africa” and its translation “Sud-Afrika” are on either side of his portrait. This silver coin was produced by the South African Mint, which has more than 120 years experience in producing some of the most exceptional bullion products in the world.
