Whoever said that coins aren’t adorable has obviously never held this Perth Mint silver coin featuring a relief of the Australian quokka. For those who are unfamiliar with this small mammal, it is a short-tailed animal about the size of a housecat.
This limited-edition coin (only 5,000 were produced) is one ounce in .999 pure silver with a denomination of one dollar.
The full-colour quokka design is about as cute as a coin can get, with highly detailed fur, shimmering eyes and eyelashes, and slightly chubby build, as it munches on a tasty leaf. In the background is one of Australia’s famous lighthouses, to protect sailors from the shores of this beloved island.
The coin’s reverse has the stern-looking portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth with the words “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, “1oz 9999 Ag”, “2021” and “1 Dollar”.
