The Cretan moon goddess Europa is riding a bull away from the brightly shining sun in this phenomenal design made for Tokelau, a remote group of islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The mythological tale is that to avoid his wife’s jealousy, Zeus morphed into a bull, abducted Europa, and swam to the island of Crete.

The reverse side features Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The face value, year of issue, country and Queen Elizabeth’s name are included.

Obverse: Europa is depicted riding a bull on the obverse of this coin. On the left side, much of the field is taken up by the sun rising or setting. It is Zeus that appears as the bull. Greek mythology states that Zeus wanted Europa.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The right-facing portrait was created by Ian Rank-Broadley for The Royal Mint in 1998. The words around her head include the face value “5 Dollars”, “2021”, “Tokelau” and “Elizabeth II”.
