First released in 1986, this US Mint-authorized silver coin with a denomination of $1 has fascinated generations of bullion collectors and investors. The timeless designs have been masterfully engraved to showcase two of America’s most iconic symbols.
The obverse side includes Adolph Weinman’s glorious etching of Lady Liberty walking toward the sunrise with the word “LIBERTY” encircling her. The phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST” is prominently displayed to her right, with the date below her.
The reverse side includes sculptor-engraver John Mercanti’s design echoes the Great Seal of the United States with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “1OZ. Fine Silver–ONE DOLLAR”. John M. Mercanti is arguably the most famous American coin engraver, and is widely respected as one of the best of the modern era.
