The British Gold Britannia, which has been highly sought after since its introduction in 1987, has only ever featured a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse for over 35 years. However, following the Queen’s passing in September 2022, King Charles III has ascended to the throne, and his effigy will now appear on more British currency. 2023 1/4 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available for purchase online from Royal Bull!

In the previous release, Jody Clark’s fifth-generation portrait of the Queen made its final appearance as the Royal Mint developed a new portrait of King Charles III. With the new design ready, the Queen’s image will be retired from the series.

On the obverse of 2023 British Gold Britannia Coins, the effigy of the new King of England, created by Martin Jennings in late 2022, is featured. The design offers a left-profile relief of the new monarch.

The reverse of the 2023 1/4 oz Gold Britannia Coins depicts Britannia, the female allegorical figure, in front-facing relief as she looks to the right. Created by Philip Nathan in 1987, this design is used not only on the Gold Britannias but also on the Silver Britannias and the Platinum Britannias.
